Probe launched into source of government leak

An internal government inquiry has been launched into how a story about a Minister’s attempt to oust her department’s chief executive was leaked to the media.

Last month, the Isle of Man Examiner revealed that Rob Callister had resigned from the Department of Health and Social Care following personal differences between Minister Beecroft and her department’s chief executive Malcolm Couch.

Matters came to a head when she asked the political members to sign a letter relating to Dr Couch’s continued position. This was essentially a vote of no confidence in the chief executive.

Mr Callister was one of those who refused to sign the letter, and subsequently resigned.

Now the Public Services Commission has launched an inquiry into how the story was leaked.

It has appointed advocate Paul Morris to lead the investigation. Even Chief Minister Howard Quayle has been interviewed, the Examiner has learned.

It is understood that following the intervention of the Chief Minister, Mrs Beecroft and Mr Couch have agreed to put their differences aside.

Mrs Beecroft has previously said that she wanted to draw a line under the issue.

Isle of Man Newspapers has not been approached by the PSC.

We would not reveal our sources in any event.

Everyone stabbing everyone else in the back, not surprising hey, the blame culture in Noble's is rife, just as West Mids Review pointed out, scapegoating and blame culture, all pointing the finger at each other, unhealthy workplace. Bullying is alive and well in the NHS

I don't visit Manx Forums MD and couldn't really give a toss what anyone there thinks.. Apparently it is used mainly by unemployed people on benefits. And if you think anyone on there can possibly know my background then you are more stupid than I thought you were. I don't know the actual reason and how could I? But the obvious one is Mrs Beecroft thinks she is an expert in Health rather than a useless politician.

Lovin' it - On Manxforums they're saying you've been a government toady for many years now CV

Why was Minister Beecroft trying to do away with Dr Couch CV?

Gav, you should read what you post before you post again. Then you won't look so stupid when you contradict yourself. By the way, who is the spy you are referring to? And I can give you any number of reasons why Mrs Beecroft was trying to get rid of Mr Couch. Can you think of any? Or is that too difficult a question for you. And please don't try and trade insults with me. You just make ore of a p*at of yourself.

CV the very fact that Quayle's spy is on here, YOU, is proof of the conspiracy. Trying to distract from the real issue. Which is, WHY WAS BEECROFT TRYING TO SACK COUCH, and who has protected him. The MESSAGE is important, the messenger is not. Leakers or whisteblowers in reality are subject to the most viscous assaults by out politicians, that is why they stay anonymous and should remain so. CV you are an abomination.

Come on HappyAllan. Please explain how Mr Couch ruined the island's economy.

Because Beecroft needs a scapegoat Middleman - nothing more, nothing less

Why on earth are they wasting money on investigating this?

Dare I suggest Dr Couch's record indicates he's highly consistent. What he did for the Island's economy, he's also delivering for the health service. p.s. our economy is all but ruined.

More conspiracy theory nonsense from Gav. MD, no it wasn't me and you are showing your lack of intellect by asking. As usual ET sums up the matter extremely well.

Never mind who leaked what took place, surely what is important is that what was being done was wrong even if just in the way it was done.

It will cost a tasty few grand and concludes that nobody was to blame and that lessons have been learned for the future.

Dare I suggest Dr Couch's record indicates he's a highly qualified, highly intelligent individual with the experience & reasoning to move the Manx HS through a particularly difficult economic and problematic labour-ridden period of change whilst Kate Beecroft isn't. Low order street-fighting competence isn't really what's needed here. You really need to balance your options here Mr Quayle before ministerial involvement creates even more damage.

Investigate who the leak was, but not why Beecroft wanted rid of Couch ! So wrong ! It's a clear sign of an evil autocratic dictatorship, Couch pulling strings with his friends to secure his position and destroy the leak. I laugh, IOM Newspapers will not reveal their source, so refusing to help it's biggest advertiser, get real !!
